Age of Empires 4: Anniversary Edition Released for Xbox Consoles

Microsoft has released the Age of Empires 4: Anniversary Edition for Xbox consoles. Developed by Relic Entertainment and World's Edge, the game is published by Microsoft for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Game Pass.

The Anniversary Edition offers innovative ways to play the beloved strategy game, with optimizations for Xbox controller and a console-specific user interface. New tutorials have also been designed for first-time players to help them easily set up and succeed in the game. However, players also have the option to use a keyboard and mouse by plugging directly into their console.

According to Microsoft, Age of Empires IV is designed to be inviting for new players, featuring a console-specific tutorial system that teaches the essence of real-time strategy. The Campaign Story Mode is also tailored for first-time players, offering easy setup and success. However, the game also offers challenges for veteran players, with new game mechanics, evolved strategies, and combat techniques.

Age of Empires 4 was originally released for PC in October 2021. In our review, we described it as a good real-time strategy game that plays it safe in the shadow of its famous predecessor. While it may not stand out on its own, the early game feels smooth, and the changes to the UI and animation are welcome. The game offers various win conditions, leaving players with memorable stories of their achievements or failures.
