AMD has officially confirmed that FSR 3 (FidelityFX Super Resolution) will be launching tomorrow in two PC titles: Forspoken and Immortals of Aveum. This announcement comes almost 10 months after AMD first introduced FSR 3 alongside its RDNA 3 GPUs.
FSR 3 promises a significant increase in performance compared to FSR 2, with up to 2x the performance boost expected. Similar to NVIDIA's DLSS 3, AMD will be utilizing frame interpolation technology to achieve this improvement. The key features and improvements of FSR 3 include AMD Fluid Motion Frames with Enhanced OFA, new frame generation and interpolation technologies, UI processing for artifact-free user interface, asynchronous compute for faster frame generation, Radeon Anti-Lag+ support for lower latencies, and more. Importantly, FSR 3 does not rely on ML/AI hardware.
The technology will be easy to integrate into FSR 2 titles and will be added to the FidelityFX SDK. Additionally, FSR 3 will be available as a plugin for Unreal Engine 5, further expanding its adoption within the gaming community.
AMD has also revealed a list of 10 future titles that will support FSR 3, including Avatar Frontiers of Pandora, Cyberpunk 2077, Warhammer 40K: Space Marine II, and more.
One of the notable demonstrations of FSR 3's capabilities was showcased with Forspoken, where it was able to boost the game's frame rate from around 30 FPS at native 4K (Ultra-High RT) to over 120+ FPS using the same settings and FSR 3 set to “Performance” mode.
What sets FSR 3 apart is its compatibility with all GPUs, including AMD's own, as well as cross-vendor compatibility with NVIDIA and Intel. The technology will also be compatible with consoles, widening its reach among gamers.
For those interested in using FSR 3 with upscaling and frame generation, AMD provides a list of supported and recommended hardware, including specific AMD and NVIDIA GPU models.
Overall, AMD's launch of FSR 3 marks a significant step towards enhancing gaming performance and improving the gameplay experience for PC gamers. With its wide compatibility and the support of various titles, FSR 3 has the potential to become a popular choice for gamers looking to optimize their graphics settings.
