Baldur’s Gate 3 Confirmed for Xbox Release in 2023, Local Co-op Dropped for Series S Version

In a surprising announcement, Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke confirmed that Baldur's Gate 3 will be releasing on Xbox in 2023. However, there is a catch – the team has decided to drop local co-op support for the Xbox Series S version.

Vincke revealed this news in a series of tweets, explaining that the decision was made after a meeting with Xbox boss Phil Spencer at Gamescom. While no specific release date was mentioned, Vincke expressed his excitement about bringing Baldur's Gate 3 to Xbox players this year, something they have been working towards for quite some time.

All the improvements made to the game will be available on the Xbox Series X version, including split-screen co-op. However, the Xbox Series S version will not feature split-screen co-op. Nevertheless, it will still offer cross-save progression between Steam and Xbox Series.

The developer had been facing challenges in implementing split-screen multiplayer on the Xbox Series S version, leading to concerns of a possible delay to 2024. Phil Spencer also mentioned this in an interview at Gamescom.

This solution now guarantees that Baldur's Gate 3 will indeed be playable on Xbox in 2023. Although the absence of split-screen on Series S may disappoint some players, it is reassuring to know that the game is coming this year.

Overall, fans of the Baldur's Gate series can look forward to experiencing the highly anticipated RPG on Xbox next year.
