Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 2 to Improve Performance and Expand the Epilogue

In an update posted on Steam, Larian Studios announced that Patch 2 for Baldur’s Gate 3 is on the way, bringing improvements to the game’s performance, particularly in Act 3, and expanding on the game’s epilogue. The developer has been diligently updating the game since its launch, rolling out hotfixes and a major bug-squashing patch.

Patch 2 will not only focus on bug fixes but will also address some of the most requested features by fans. Larian Studios addressed concerns about “cut content,” stating that most of it was either due to bugs or deliberate creative decisions made for the overall betterment of the game. However, the developer acknowledges the disappointment voiced by players regarding the game's epilogue and has decided to take action.

The first part of the epilogue that Larian will expand upon in Patch 2 is the companion character Karlach's storyline. Larian promises a new optional ending that will provide Karlach with a more satisfying conclusion. The developer describes it as “fiery, poignant, and gives her the ending she deserves.”

Another major focus of Patch 2 will be improving performance throughout the game, with a particular emphasis on Act 3. Larian recognizes that the city of Baldur’s Gate presents significant technical and narrative challenges, and the team aims to enhance the performance of Act 3, where players have reported the most significant issues.

Patch 2 is just the beginning of the performance improvements, as the developer plans to continue working on enhancing Act 3 throughout September with new technology that has experienced some delays.

Larian Studios is also actively working on quality-of-life improvements and new features. One feature in the works is the ability for players to change their character's appearance mid-campaign. Additionally, Larian is developing a feature that will allow players to remove co-op party members who join their campaigns. This feature will be called “Withers’ Wardrobe of Wayward Friends” and will provide a whimsical solution to getting rid of unwanted party members.

While there is no specific release date for Patch 2 yet, it is speculated that it could coincide with Baldur's Gate 3's release on PlayStation 5 on September 6.
