The upcoming Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster for the Nintendo Switch is set to bring back the original GameCube RPGs with various updates. However, it has been announced that the remastered versions will not include English voice acting.
Producer Koji Nakajima recently explained the decision in an interview with Nintendo Everything. He stated that during development, the team made adjustments to some of the expressions in order to match the current era. These adjustments would have resulted in discrepancies if English voice acting had been included.
Nakajima clarified, “That’s why we made the difficult decision not to use English VOs for this remastered version, due to the discrepancies that will happen.” While the English dub of the first Baten Kaitos game was not well-received by fans, the inclusion of English voice acting could have been an option for the second entry, where improvements were made.
Some fans have speculated that rights issues may have been the cause for the omission of English voice acting, but it seems that this was not the case. Regardless, Baten Kaitos I & II HD Remaster is still highly anticipated by fans of the original GameCube RPGs.
The remastered versions of Baten Kaitos I & II are scheduled to launch for the Nintendo Switch on September 14, 2023.
