Cale Makar Selected for Cover of EA Sports’ NHL 24 Video Game

Cale Makar, defenseman for the Colorado Avalanche, has been chosen to grace the cover of EA Sports' NHL 24 video game. Makar expressed his excitement and honor on social media, stating that he couldn't be happier to be featured on the cover. The cover image showcases Makar in his team uniform, with snow flying off his skates as he controls the puck.

Makar's selection for the cover is a significant accomplishment, making him only the third defenseman in the past two decades to receive this honor. The previous defensemen to be featured were Dion Phaneuf in NHL 09 and P.K. Subban in NHL 19.

According to Mike Inglehart, senior design director at EA Sports, Makar's inclusion on the cover was a natural choice. Inglehart praised Makar as a highly talented player who has already achieved remarkable success in his young career. He believes that Makar's style of play and on-ice contributions make him universally appreciated by hockey fans.

At the age of 24, Makar is a two-time finalist for the Norris Trophy, an award given to the NHL's best defenseman. He even claimed the award in 2022. Despite facing multiple rounds of concussion protocols during the previous season, Makar managed to amass an impressive 66 points, including 17 goals, in just 60 games. He is currently under contract with the Avalanche through the 2026-27 season.

The highly anticipated EA Sports NHL game is set to be released in early October. Makar hinted at more game details that will be unveiled on Wednesday. Fans can look forward to experiencing Makar's skills and gameplay as they navigate through the virtual hockey world.
