DualShock and DualSense Controllers to Receive Enhanced Support on Steam

In an update scheduled for next month, Valve has announced that the Steam store will be providing more explicit support for Sony's PlayStation controllers, the DualShock (PS4) and DualSense (PS5). Game developers will be able to clearly indicate controller compatibility in their store listings, and players will also be able to search for games based on controller support, including Xbox, DualShock, and DualSense. Additionally, information about PlayStation controller support will be displayed in players' game libraries.

This update is significant for those who prefer the PlayStation controller layout, as developers will have even more reason to optimize their games for these controllers. Sony's design features a central touchpad, and the PS5 DualSense boasts impressive haptic feedback capabilities. The Last of Us, for example, already has support for the DualSense trigger. While it's not guaranteed that all developers will bring these features to Steam, users can always customize their controller settings using Steam's extensive customization options.

According to Valve, PlayStation controllers are highly popular among Steam users, with 27 percent of game sessions involving the use of PlayStation pads. This update aims to make the gaming experience more inclusive and cater to the diverse preferences of gamers.
