Esports to Debut as a Medal Sport in Asian Games 2023

Esports is set to make its debut as a medal sport in the Asian Games 2023, which will be held in Hangzhou, China. The historic entry of esports into the Asian Games programme will include seven gaming titles, namely League of Legends (LoL), FIFA Online 4, PUBG Mobile, Arena of Valor, Dota 2, Dream Three Kingdoms 2, and Street Fighter V: Champion Edition.

India will compete in four of these events, which are Dota 2, FIFA Online 4, League of Legends, and Street Fighter V: Champion Edition. League of Legends, one of the most popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) video games in the world, will be one of the star attractions of the esports programme.

The top 19 League of Legends teams from Asia will be participating in the 2023 Asian Games, vying for medals. The matches leading up to the final will be played in a best-of-three format, while the gold and bronze medal matches will be contested in a best-of-five format.

The Indian League of Legends team for the Asian Games 2023 is led by captain Akshaj Shenoy, also known as Kai. The team also includes Samarth Arvind Trivedi (CrankO), Mihir Ranjan (Lotus), Sanindhya Malik (Deadcorp), Aakash Shandilya (Infi), and Aditya Selvaraj (Krow).

These six gamers qualified for the Asian Games 2023 by winning the National Esports Championships (NESC) organized by the Esports Federation of India (ESFI). They followed up with an unbeaten run at the League of Legends seeding event for South Asian countries, securing a favorable seeding for Team India at the main event in Hangzhou.

Despite the absence of official League of Legends servers in India, the Indian team has achieved success. Akshaj Shenoy, the captain, has shown exceptional gameplay skills and leadership qualities. Aditya Selvaraj, also known as Krow, has showcased strategic brilliance in the game, while Aakash Shandilya, known as Infi, has established himself as a prominent figure in the Indian League of Legends esports scene.

These players have achieved numerous victories in various tournaments, demonstrating their mastery over the game and their versatility in different games. Their participation in the Asian Games 2023 marks a significant milestone for esports in India.
