In 2018, Rockstar Games released Red Dead Redemption 2, a highly acclaimed open-world western game. However, since its launch, fans have eagerly anticipated a next-gen patch or updated version for the more powerful PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles. Despite speculation, this update has yet to materialize, leaving many disappointed.
Recently leaked documents have revealed that even Microsoft had anticipated a next-gen release for Red Dead Redemption 2. In a chart outlining potential games for its subscription service, Game Pass, Microsoft listed an entry for RDR 2's “gen 9” release. The documents indicate that Microsoft expected this next-gen version to launch in the second quarter of 2022, estimating that players would spend approximately 10 million hours per month on the game.
However, all of this planning and anticipation proved futile as Red Dead Redemption 2 has still not received a next-gen update. This is a missed opportunity for the game to reach its full potential on the more powerful consoles, potentially running at 60fps instead of the current 30fps.
It appears that Rockstar Games is currently focused on developing the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, as indicated by a separate leak from last year. With fans continuing to wait for a next-gen update, it remains to be seen whether Rockstar will revisit Red Dead Redemption 2 in the future.
