Hogwarts Legacy Tops UK Sales Chart Once Again and Sees Significant Sales Increase

Hogwarts Legacy, the popular Harry Potter video game set in the late 1800s Wizarding World, continues to dominate the sales charts. According to the latest data from Gamesindustry.biz, the game has once again claimed the top spot in the United Kingdom and experienced a remarkable 228% increase in sales compared to the previous week. This surge in sales can be attributed to a retailer promotion that boosted sales across all platforms, with the PlayStation 5 version leading the charge with a 266% increase, closely followed by the Xbox Series X|S version with a 249% increase.

The success of Hogwarts Legacy has solidified its position as a powerhouse in the gaming industry. Since its release, the game has sold over 15 million copies and generated a staggering $1 billion in revenue for its developer, Avalanche Software. Even now, it continues to outperform new titles, such as Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon, which experienced a 71% decrease in sales and dropped to fifth place from its debut at number one. It is worth noting that the UK Sales Charts only track physical copies, excluding digital sales that may have been influenced by a recent 30% discount.

Hogwarts Legacy is not the only long-standing game that is holding its own in the charts. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe maintains a strong position in third place with an 18% increase in sales, while Grand Theft Auto V and Minecraft remain popular choices among gamers, consistently staying within the top 10.

The recent sales chart also provided a glimpse into the future, with the early access Premium Edition Upgrade for Bethesda's highly-anticipated Starfield debuting at number seven. This indicates a high level of interest leading up to the game's full release on September 6. The early access version includes a download code for the digital edition of the game and its first story expansion.

In addition to Hogwarts Legacy, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga saw a significant boost in sales, jumping from sixth to second place with a 98% surge, primarily driven by a Nintendo Switch discount. The increased popularity of these games raises speculation about potential future successes. Other games, such as Street Fighter 6 and Diablo 4, also climbed the charts due to price reductions, highlighting the impact of tactical price-cutting on game sales.

While some titles experienced declines despite promotions or the introduction of new content, retailer-driven discounts breathed new life into previously overlooked games. Forspoken, Final Fantasy 16, Saints Row, and Gran Turismo 7 re-entered the fray with impressive sales spikes ranging from 47% to 204%.

As the year draws to a close, it is likely that Hogwarts Legacy will maintain its position as the best-selling game of 2023. Only time will tell if the game can sustain its dominance, especially with the upcoming release on the Nintendo Switch in November.
