How to Move Search Bar to Top on iPhone

The iOS 15 comes with exciting features for every iPhone user. However, the new Safari redesign places the search bar at the bottom of the screen rather than the top. This can be frustrating to users looking for the address bar at the top as the previous version of iOS was.

The good news is that iOS 15 provides two alternative methods for restoring the Safari address bar at the Top. Read on to learn the two methods;

1. Directly in Safari

The first method is to move the search bar from the bottom of the app to the top directly in Safari. Here are steps to guide you:

Step 1: Launch your iPhone's Safari browser and open any website.

Step 2: Tap on the two A's icon found on the left of the website's URL. This move will open a new menu.

Step 3: On the new menu, choose “Show Top Address Bar.” Your iPhone 15 search bar will instantly move to the Top.

2. Through the Settings App

This method is only applicable to those who use iPhone 15 and any other latest version. If you are using an older version of the iPhone, use the first method.

Step 1: Open the Settings app on your iPhone 15 and tap Safari.

Step 2: Scroll down and tap on Search Engine.

Step 3: Then navigate downwards to where the Tabs section is and find the option for switching between the Single Tab and the Tab Bar.

Step 4: Choose Single Tab to shift the Address Bar to the Top of your iPhone 15 screen. Otherwise, choose the Tab Bar if you should think of moving it back to the bottom.

Step 5: Launch the Safari app and check the address bar position.

Note: Even though the Address Bar will move to the top of your iPhone screen in Safari, the associated keys will still be visible at the bottom of the screen.

Revert to the Bottom Safari Search Bar

If you want to switch back to the default iPhone 15 Safari search bar at the bottom, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Start your iPhone's Safari browser, open any website, and tap on the two A's icon.

Step 2: Go ahead and click Show Bottom Tab Bar.

Your search bar should move to the bottom instantly.

Set Google as the Default Search Engine on iPhone

When you search online using Safari on your iPhone, Apple uses Bing by default. If you'd rather use Google, you can change your default search engine by;

Step 1: Launch the Settings app on your iPhone.

Step 2: Scroll downwards and tap Safari.

tap Safari

Step 3: On the Safari screen, you will find the default search engine listed alongside the Search Engine

Step 4: Click on Search Engine to switch the search engine.

Step 5: On the new menu, select your preferred search engine (Google) from the four available choices: Google, Yahoo, Bing, and DuckDuckGo.

Step 6: Tap on Safari to revert to Safari's settings. The name of your selected search engine is displayed alongside the Search Engine entry.

If you want to confirm that Google is now your default search engine, open Safari, tap anywhere in the URL bar, and start typing something. You'll notice that results are from Google in the suggestions bar above your keyboard.

Final Word

Next time you update your iPhone's iOS and find the search bar is at the bottom, worry not! You can use either of the approaches above to restore it to the Top.
