Apple AirPods is one of the impressive devices that you can use to listen to music. Besides, you can also use them to control calls and other audio media through your iPhone or iPad.

But if you are using them for the first time, pausing music can be complex. There are a few pretty easy ways to pause music on your AirPods. Read on to learn more.

1. Remove the AirPods from Your Ear

The simplest yet quickest way to pause music playing through your AirPods is to pop one of the AirPod devices out of your ear. The music will pause because the earbud's Automatic Ear Detection sensor will record that the AirPod has been removed and pause the sound.

The music will resume playing once you put back the AirPod. With this mode of pausing music, you can quickly pop out one AirPod, speak to anyone around you and restore it to continue listening to the music.

However, if you practice this strategy repeatedly, it may not work. The music will continue playing in the other ear. To avoid music playing unexpectedly in one AirPod after removing the other piece, take both AirPods out. You can put back the AirPods in their charging case to ensure that no music is playing through them.

2. Press the Force Sensor

AirPods Force Sensor

This method is reserved for AirPods Pro; it will not work with earlier versions. To pause music on your AirPods Pro by pressing the force sensor, long-press either of the force sensor on your AirPods. The force sensor is on the stem of the AirPods, and it has a feeling like that of an indented oval shape. You can un-pause the music by pressing the force sensor again.

Besides the pausing music, you use the force sensor to switch from Active Noise Cancellation to Transparency mode and vice versa. The Active Noise Cancellation feature blocks out any noise around you. It's an excellent option for canceling external noise when walking on a busy street or a subway while listening to music through your AirPods.

3. Pause Audio Using Siri

If you are using AirPod Pro or the second generation, you can use Siri to pause music or any audio playing through them. To pause the music, speak to Siri aloud, saying, “Hey, Siri, pause,” and the music will pause. However, for effectiveness, you will have to speak “Hey Siri,” wait for about two seconds, and tell it to “Pause.”

To set your AirPods (first generation) to pause via Siri, you have to configure them;

Step 1: Open your Settings app, choose the Bluetooth section, and connect your AirPods via Bluetooth.

Step 2: Proceed to the left side of the name of your AirPods and tap on the “i” symbol.

Step 3: Next, choose to set up the Right or Left AirPod on Siri.

Step 4: Tap on Play/Pause.

Step 1: Swiping down from the top right.

Step 2: Press the Pause symbol at the top right.

However, you will have to configure either your left or right AirPod through your iOS Settings app for this functionality. Here is how to do the configuration;

Step 2: Next, choose the tab with your AirPods to connect.

Step 3: Tap the “i” icon adjacent to your AirPods tab.
