How to Run The Sims 4 Without the EA App

I‘ll cut right to the chase here, friend. While you need Origin installed initially, you can directly launch The Sims 4‘s executable file to bypass the app after installation. Switching offline mode on in Game Properties will let you play without an internet connection and skip Origin entirely.

As a fellow gamer and streaming fan, I know you want to jump right into the fun stuff in Sims 4 without fussing with extra launchers. Let‘s dive into the different ways you can run The Sims 4 without the EA app after that first install.

Executing The Shortcut to Sidestep Origin

Once you‘ve installed The Sims 4 via Origin and it‘s linked to your EA account, the app technically isn‘t needed anymore. You can directly launch the Sims 4 executable file without opening Origin in the background.

Here‘s how:

On Windows, open File Explorer and head to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\The Sims 4

Mac users can find the app at:

/Applications/The Sims

Double click the "TS4" application file and Sims 4 will boot up! The Origin app doesn‘t even need to be installed anymore at this point.

Going Offline Lets You Avoid Origin Entirely

If you want to cut out Origin altogether, dive into Game Properties from the app and flip the offline switch. Here are the steps:

  1. In Origin, right-click The Sims 4 and choose Game Properties.
  2. Select the Settings tab.
  3. Uncheck the "Online Access" box and click Save.

This makes The Sims 4 run in offline mode by default. You can now launch the game directly without Origin running or even installed on your system!

The only catch is losing access to online features like the Gallery, social tools and multiplayer. But if you just want to play solo, it works great.

Adding It to Your Steam Library

You can also add The Sims 4 executable to Steam as a non-Steam game. This lets you easily launch it from your Steam library without Origin running.

Follow these steps:

  1. In Steam, click "Add a Game" and choose "Add a Non-Steam Game."
  2. Browse to The Sims 4‘s executable file and select it.
  3. The Sims 4 will now appear in your Steam library! Just click it to play.

As a fellow Steam fan, I know you‘ll appreciate having the shortcut there for quick access.

Do I Need an EA Account?

Short answer: yes. Even when bypassing Origin, an EA account is required to play The Sims 4. It provides the license authentication when the game boots up.

The good news is making an EA account is totally free. It unlocks features like:

  • The Gallery – Browse and download amazing Sims creations made by other players. This is a must-have!
  • Social Features – Share posts and photos with the community. Great way to connect with fellow Simmers.
  • Multiplayer – Available only on console, but lets you play with friends.

There are also paid EA subscriptions like EA Play and EA Play Pro which provide exclusive bonuses, early access to new packs and discounts. But a basic free account is all you absolutely need.

Any Mobile Options Without Origin?

EA has launched simplified mobile versions of The Sims that you can play on smartphones and tablets without Origin. Titles like The Sims FreePlay and The Sims Mobile let you build homes, craft Sims and play online.

The catch is these mobile Sims games have:

  • Simplified graphics and gameplay
  • Significant microtransactions to unlock content
  • Online connectivity required

Mobile Sims games can be fun distractions, but serious Simmers will want the full experience on PC. Speaking of which…

When Will Origin Go Away Completely?

EA is planning to eventually phase out Origin and replace it with their new EA Desktop platform. The EA Desktop app is currently in open beta testing.

Based on EA‘s transition timeline, they plan to expand support and make EA Desktop the mandatory launcher sometime in 2023. But Origin still provides critical functionality for The Sims 4 today.

Uninstalling Origin altogether will prevent you from playing installed games. So it‘s best to keep it around for now. Running both Origin and EA Desktop together works fine in the meantime.

Here‘s a quick comparison of features between the clients:

Feature Origin EA Desktop
The Sims 4 Support Full support Limited
Offline Play Partial Full offline mode
Game installation All games Limited library
Overlay Yes No
Game analytics Yes No

As you can see, Origin is still king when it comes to The Sims 4. But EA Desktop shows promise as its eventual replacement down the road!

In Conclusion…

While you need Origin first, you‘ve got options to launch and play The Sims 4 without the app running constantly in the background. Directly launching the executable and toggling offline mode provides a cleaner experience.

Adding Sims 4 to your Steam library also lets you avoid Origin entirely if you prefer keeping things in one place. And remember, mobile Sims titles allow play without Origin but provide a very different experience.

I hope these tips help you skip straight to the fun stuff in The Sims 4! Let me know if you have any other questions, and happy Simming my friend!
