iRacing has officially announced that the highly anticipated Toyota SF23 Super Formula car will be added to its Season 4 Build. The online racing service released a video showcasing the car in action at the Suzuka and Fuji International Raceway circuits.
The Super Formula SF23 is a popular Japanese single-seater that competes in the Super Formula championship. Known for its near-Formula 1 levels of aerodynamic performance, the SF23 features two-litre, four-cylinder engines supplied by Toyota and Honda.
This addition to iRacing is particularly exciting as it marks the first appearance of the SF23 in a game or sim. The previous model, the Dallara SF19, is being replaced by the SF23 which features a push-to-pass system and produces around 540bhp.
It is important to note the sustainability efforts that went into the development of the SF23. The car was designed to reduce dirty air production by 50% compared to its predecessor and also contributes to a reduced carbon footprint. The use of bio-composite materials, including cork, flax fibers, and recycled carbon fiber, significantly lowered emissions during the car's production.
While the Toyota-powered SF23 will be available in iRacing's Season 4 Build, it remains unclear if the Honda-powered version will also be included in the future.
In addition to the SF23, iRacing's Season 4 Build will introduce several other new cars, such as the Porsche 963 LMDh/GTP, Acura ARX-06 GTP, 1987 Pontiac Grand Prix NASCAR, and Ferrari 296 GT3. Alongside the new cars, new circuits like Kern County Raceway, Circuit de Lédenon, and Zandvoort's modern layout will also be added.
