Italian LoL Streamer Receives Indefinite Ban from Riot Games

Riot Games, the developer of League of Legends (LoL), has imposed an indefinite ban on Luca “Brizz94” Brizzante, an Italian streamer and retired player and coach, from all Riot titles due to his toxic behavior. The ban was announced in a Discord server with several Italian streamers present and later read by Brizz94 in a stream. The announcement stated that the Italian League of Legends community has garnered a reputation for toxicity and unfriendliness. Riot Games emphasized that the ban was not a personal attack on Brizzante, but rather a response to his actions, which influence and shape the community's behavior.

Riot Games issued a warning to other streamers, advising them not to work with Brizz94 in the future, and requested that they maintain a professional approach and exclude him from their broadcasts. Brizz94 expressed frustration during his stream, stating that he does not believe he will suffer any consequences and that he has other options available.

It is noteworthy that this ban comes shortly after Riot Korea IP banned LoL streamer Akshan “TFBlade” Homayouni for toxic behavior. The incidents involving TFBlade and Brizz94 are not the first instances where Riot has issued indefinite bans to streamers for their detrimental behavior. One prominent incident occurred in 2016 when American streamer Tyler “Tyler1” Steinkamp was banned by Riot after multiple top-ranked LoL players and professionals called for action against him. Tyler1's ban was lifted in 2018 after he expressed reformed behavior.

Riot Games has consistently sought to address toxic behavior within the community. In 2022, they partnered with Ubisoft to launch the “Zero Harm Comms” AI research project, which aims to prevent disruptive in-game behavior. Additionally, in May 2023, Riot implemented measures to prevent identified toxic players from participating in ranked games. These ongoing efforts demonstrate the company's commitment to promoting a positive and respectful gaming environment.
