Minecraft for Xbox Series X|S Rated in Germany, Hinting at Current-Gen Upgrade

The German entertainment regulation body, USK, has recently rated Minecraft for Xbox Series X|S, suggesting that a current-gen upgrade for the game may be on the horizon. The rating, spotted on the USK website, indicates that the game has received a USK 6 rating, identical to its rating on other platforms, but specifically labeled as the “Xbox Series” version.

While this rating could mean nothing significant, it raises the possibility that Minecraft will finally receive a version specifically designed for Microsoft's newer hardware. This upgrade could potentially include the long-awaited ray-tracing features that were accidentally revealed in a preview build of the game last year. Xbox players have eagerly anticipated an update to the game with new visual features since the cancellation of the Super Duper Graphics Pack, which was initially intended for the Xbox One X.

The timing of this rating is particularly interesting, as Microsoft is preparing for a significant presence at Gamescom, a major gaming event held in Germany. It would be an ideal opportunity for Microsoft to announce the release of a current-gen port for Minecraft, especially considering there is no evidence of a similar rating for the game on the PlayStation 5. Such an announcement would undoubtedly be a major boon for Microsoft's Game Pass.

At Gamescom, Xbox plans to showcase an expansive booth with over 150 gaming stations featuring 30 titles. Attendees will have the chance to play 25 of these games, including highly anticipated releases such as Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, Payday 3, Persona 5 Tactica, Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, and the long-awaited S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2. Additionally, Gamescom's Opening Night Live promises exciting announcements and new trailers, providing further opportunities for Minecraft news and updates to be revealed.

With the potential for a current-gen upgrade and significant announcements at Gamescom, Minecraft fans have reason to be excited about the future of their beloved game.
