Mortal Kombat 1: A Look at the Classic Living Forest Level

NetherRealm Studios recently shared some stunning images of the iconic Living Forest level in the upcoming game Mortal Kombat 1. The level made its debut in Mortal Kombat II back in 1993 and has become one of the most memorable locations in the franchise.

The Living Forest is known for its haunting and surreal atmosphere, showcasing the dark dangers of Outworld. In previous games, players could even catch glimpses of secret characters like Smoke and Jade peeking out from behind the haunted trees. It has become a staple of the series, appearing in various iterations to consume more Kombatants.

In Mortal Kombat 1, players will be presented with two sides of the famous flora. The first side is the normal Living Forest, which exudes a peaceful and lively ambiance during the daytime. It seems to have benefited from Liu Kang's vision of a more serene universe.

On the other hand, there is the Corrupted Forest, a twisted and dangerous version of the Living Forest. This eerie version features green fire, skull-like trees, and leafless shrubs that create a sinister and foreboding atmosphere. NetherRealm's Twitter post suggests that dark magic has awakened the haunted trees, causing the corruption of this once peaceful place.

The contrast between the slumbering Living Forest and the menacing Corrupted Forest adds an intriguing dynamic to the level. One side appears to be a perfect setting for a leisurely stroll, while the other promises to bring chaos and destruction.

Mortal Kombat 1 is set to release on September 19, 2023 for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5.
