NetherRealm Studios, the team behind Mortal Kombat 1, is set to conduct a beta test for the highly anticipated fighter. The beta test will run from August 18 to August 21, giving players a chance to get their hands on the game before its official release in September.
This beta test is different from previous closed network tests, as it will include new content that has not been seen before. One of the newly revealed fighters is Li Mei, who will join the roster that already includes characters such as Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, Kenshi, Kitana, Johnny Cage, and more.
In addition to the fighters, the beta test will also feature cameos from Kano, Sonya, Jax, and Frost. Players will be able to duke it out in two different stages: The Teahouse and Johnny Cage's Mansion.
The announcement of the beta test comes after Mortal Kombat 1 showcased at a recent San Diego Comic-Con presentation. During the event, NetherRealm Studios revealed the return of Baraka, Li Mei, and Tanya, as well as special guest characters Omni-Man, Peacemaker, and Homelander.
It is worth noting that August 18 holds significance for Mortal Kombat fans. Not only is it the day of the beta test, but it is also the shared birthday of Ed Boon and co-creator John Tobias' mothers. Additionally, the original Mortal Kombat movie was released on this day in 1995.
Mortal Kombat 1 is described as a reboot and sequel, with the storyline following Liu Kang as he becomes the God of Fire and remakes the universe. The game features a brighter and more colorful aesthetic compared to previous installations, while still maintaining the series' signature gruesome fatalities.
IGN had the opportunity to go hands-on with Mortal Kombat 1 and shared their impressions of the game back in June. Fans can look forward to experiencing the full release of Mortal Kombat 1 on September 14.
