New Location for Workforce Solutions Anchors Economic Development Opportunities in Providence

Mayor Brett P. Smiley and Workforce Solutions of Providence/Cranston celebrated the opening of their new location at 50 Sims Avenue in Providence on Tuesday. The ribbon-cutting event was attended by Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos, Cranston Mayor Ken Hopkins, and various partner agencies. The new facility serves as a central hub for job seekers and employers, providing a range of services and resources.

The new Workforce Solutions location at 50 Sims Avenue is part of the revitalization of the Valley neighborhood in Providence. This development highlights the city's commitment to positioning itself competitively in new economies. The facility shares an office building with other local organizations such as the Jane Addams Resource Center, Providence Preservation Society, and WaterFire Providence.

As an American Job Center, Workforce Solutions of Providence/Cranston is committed to supporting both job seekers and employers. The facility hosts several partner agencies, including the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training, the Comprehensive Community Action Program, Job Corps, and the Providence Public Library, which offer various services onsite.

Lieutenant Governor Matos expressed her enthusiasm for the new location, emphasizing that a centralized economic development site makes it easier for jobseekers to access the support and resources they need. The transformation of 50 Sims Avenue from an unused factory to a community-centered space has been a significant goal for the neighborhood's representatives.

Workforce Solutions of Providence/Cranston provides comprehensive services, including recruitment, training facilitation, pre-screenings, employment tests, and information about tax credits, workplace safety, and labor market information. The agency also offers personalized career counseling, GED preparation, resume assistance, and tailored information about training and job opportunities for job seekers.

Mayor Kenneth J. Hopkins of Cranston highlighted the importance of the new facility in promoting job growth for both Cranstonians and Providence residents. The partnership between Workforce Solutions and the city will continue to strengthen and improve employment programs.

In addition to the Workforce Solutions site, the City of Providence has embarked on a larger strategy for economic development, including a new partnership with the Small Business Administration to support local business owners. The city aims to streamline processes, digitize information, and provide workshops that increase access to technical information and support for entrepreneurs.
