According to reports, Nintendo's upcoming console, known as the Nintendo Switch 2, might have performance capabilities similar to Sony's PlayStation 4 and Microsoft's Xbox One. The information was revealed in a redacted document titled “NG Switch Draft.pdf,” which was made public during the FTC v. Microsoft hearings.
In December 2022, executives from Activision Blizzard, including CEO Bobby Kotick, met with Nintendo to discuss the Switch 2. The document, examined by The Verge, quotes Chris Schnakenberg, Activision's head of platform strategy and partner relations, stating that it is reasonable to assume they could create compelling games for the next-generation Switch, given its closer alignment to the Gen8 platforms like PS4 and Xbox One.
The goal for the Nintendo Switch 2 reportedly involves maintaining its hybrid nature while improving its power and potentially enhancing game graphics. Activision Blizzard expressed interest in securing early access to the development hardware prototypes for the console.
This rumored upgrade indicates that Nintendo is focused on delivering a better gaming experience for its users. With performance capabilities similar to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the Switch 2 could provide more immersive and visually appealing games.
As of now, there has been no official confirmation from Nintendo regarding the specifications or release date of the Nintendo Switch 2. However, these reports have generated excitement and anticipation among gaming enthusiasts who are eager to see what Nintendo has in store for its next-generation console.
