NVIDIA Announces Half-Life 2 RTX: An RTX Remix Project

NVIDIA surprised fans at Gamescom 2023 by announcing the revival of the classic Valve title, Half-Life 2. The announcement comes as part of NVIDIA's effort to showcase its modding technology. The company revealed Half-Life 2 RTX: An RTX Remix Project, in which the PC modding community will work together to update the game for a modern audience.

The modders will utilize an early access version of NVIDIA's RTX Remix modding platform to remake Half-Life 2. They will use Valve's Hammer editor to improve textures and NVIDIA's technology, including ray tracing, DLSS 3, Reflect, and RTX IO, to update the visuals and bring them on par with today's best titles.

Currently, four top Half-Life 2 mod teams have joined forces to work on the project. However, they are actively seeking the participation of more modders from the PC gaming community to contribute to this ambitious endeavor.

NVIDIA previously introduced its RTX Remix platform in 2022 and showcased its capabilities with the release of the RTX 4070 Ti GPU. The Half-Life 2 RTX Remix project is expected to be an even more ambitious undertaking, although no launch date has been set yet.

As the project develops, NVIDIA will provide updates on its progress. In the meantime, interested individuals can visit the NVIDIA website for more information. The Half-Life 2 RTX: An RTX Remix Project promises to breathe new life into this iconic game, and fans are eagerly awaiting its release.
