Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Remake for Nintendo Switch Announced

Nintendo fans have something to look forward to in 2024 as the beloved 2004 GameCube RPG, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, is getting a remake for the Switch. This announcement comes on the heels of another Nintendo RPG remake, Super Mario RPG, which is set to launch in November 2023.

Although a release date has not been revealed yet, fans can expect Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door to arrive sometime in 2024. Nintendo has not made the game available for pre-order on the eShop, suggesting that it may still be a while before its release. It might make sense for the game to launch later in the year to avoid competing with Super Mario RPG.

The announcement of the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake came with a trailer during the recent Nintendo Direct. The trailer showcased the game's updated graphics and classic gameplay, much to the excitement of fans.

The Thousand-Year Door's story played a significant role in its original success. It follows the adventures of Mario as he embarks on a quest to find a treasure from a ruined kingdom hidden behind the Thousand-Year Door. Along the way, Mario teams up with unlikely allies and visits various unique locations in the Mario universe.

The Switch remake of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door retains the charming paper cut-out style of the original but enhances it with improved graphics. The backgrounds now resemble actual folded paper, adding to the distinctive atmosphere of the game.

The gameplay of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door combines turn-based combat with timing elements. Players strategically issue commands to party members, and by timing button presses correctly, they can unleash powerful attacks or avoid damage. The game also features Flower Points for special attacks and Star Power, which is replenished by a cheering audience during battles.

A notable feature of the game is that players assume the roles of other characters besides Mario. At certain points, the game allows players to control Princess Peach and Bowser, adding variety to the gameplay and expanding the storyline.

The unique elements and beloved RPG mechanics of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door set it apart from later entries in the series. Fans have eagerly awaited its return on a modern console, and the announcement of the Nintendo Switch remake has only heightened their anticipation.
