Pokémon GO Testing Shorter Raid Lobby Timers for Tier 1 and Tier 3 Raids

Niantic's official support account on Twitter (@NianticHelp) has announced a potential quality of life update for Pokémon GO. The update involves shorter Raid Lobby Timers for Tier 1 and Tier 3 Raids. Trainers participating in Raids in certain regions will see a reduced countdown timer of 60 seconds for Tier 1 Raids and 80 seconds for Tier 3 Raids.

If this test proves successful, these features may be permanently added to Pokémon GO. This update comes after the recent addition of the “Ready! Button” in August, which allows trainers to speed up the raid timer if all participating trainers are ready. However, the “Ready! Button” cannot be used when a trainer is raiding alone. The shorter lobby timers would be a welcome update for solo raiders, reducing the waiting time for raids.

Currently, there have been no reports of the test being available in-game. Trainers are encouraged to share their findings on social media if they come across these test raids. Once specific locations and screenshots are available, they will be shared by the community.

Opinions on this feature vary among players. Some believe that the ability to use the “Ready! Button” for Tier 1 and 3 raids would be more beneficial. However, this could lead to complications if trainers are not strong enough to defeat the raid, if trainers are constantly moving from raid to raid, or if shorter timers do not give enough time for joining via remote raid invites.

Overall, this QOL update shows that Niantic is actively experimenting with different features to enhance the raiding experience for trainers. It will be interesting to see if this feature is adopted for lower tier raids in the future after the conclusion of this test.
