Qualcomm Introduces Snapdragon G Series for Handheld Gaming

Chip manufacturer Qualcomm has unveiled its new Snapdragon G Series handheld gaming portfolio, offering a range of options for playing “console-first” games. The portfolio consists of three tiers: G1, G2, and G3, with the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 Platform being the latest addition.

According to Mithun Chandrasekhar, Senior Director of Product Management at Qualcomm, the new Snapdragon G Series devices will provide gamers with the best platform to play their favorite titles, with the flexibility of choosing between cloud, console, Android, or PC gaming while on the go.

The Snapdragon G1 tier is designed for fanless handheld gaming devices, enabling game streaming from local or cloud sources. It focuses on lag-free connectivity and extended battery life, allowing players to enjoy console and PC games for longer periods of time. The first product in this tier is the Snapdragon G1 Gen 1 Platform, featuring a Qualcomm Kryo CPU (8 Core) and the Qualcomm Adreno A11 GPU, providing high-quality handheld game streaming experiences.

The Snapdragon G2 tier aims to unlock full-featured mobile and cloud gaming, offering a highly optimized processor and advanced 5G and Wi-Fi 6/6E capabilities with the Qualcomm FastConnect 6700 Mobile Connectivity System. The first device in this category is the Snapdragon G2 Gen 1 Platform, equipped with the latest Kryo CPU (8 Core), an Adreno A21 GPU optimized for gaming, and the Snapdragon X62 5G Modem-RF System.

At the flagship level, the Snapdragon G3 tier, powered by the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 Platform, delivers best-in-class gaming experiences across a wide range of gaming ecosystems. With a Kryo CPU (8 Core) and an Adreno A32 GPU, the G3x Gen 2 Platform offers over 30% faster CPU performance and 2 times faster GPU performance compared to its predecessor.

Leading companies such as AyaNeo, Huaqin, Inventec, and Thundercomm are collaborating with Qualcomm to develop handheld gaming devices powered by Snapdragon G Series Platforms.
