Sony PlayStation 5 Rumored to Introduce Smell-O-Vision Feature

The Sony PlayStation 5 (PS5), released in 2020, is once again making headlines with its latest treat for fans. The PS5, known for its popular games like The Last of Us 2 and God of War Ragnarok, continues to impress with its features such as Remote Play, Cross-Generation Multiplayer, and Auto Low Latency Mode.

Rumors have now emerged that Sony is working on a new patent that could take players' immersion to the next level. The speculation suggests that Sony wants to enable users to smell video games. This would be an addition to the existing immersive features of the PS5, such as motion sensors, vibration feedback, and built-in speakers.

Sony's rival, Xbox, has already introduced a limited-time offer of pizza-scented Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) controllers, adding to the immersive gaming experience. Now, Sony seems to be following suit with its own immersive feature.

The concept of smelling video games, known as Smell-O-Vision, is not entirely new. It was first introduced in cinema in 1960 and later attempted in television in 1965. While the latter turned out to be an April Fool's prank, the idea has resurfaced over the years. Sony's patent for a Smell-O-Vision-like feature aims to simulate in-game odors, enabling players to experience scents like the smell of copper during battles or the breeze in a virtual farmland.

It remains to be seen whether Sony will turn this concept into a reality and how it will work. Fans are eagerly awaiting more information about this potential addition to the PS5's immersive experience.
