We Are Royale Partners with Ubisoft to Create Immersive Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR Trailer

We Are Royale (WAR), an award-winning creative production company, has teamed up with Ubisoft to produce the reveal trailer for Assassin's Creed Nexus VR, the first-ever immersive virtual reality game in the blockbuster gaming franchise. The trailer showcases the experience of players stepping into the shoes of their favorite Assassin's Creed heroes, immersing themselves in the game world through the use of the Quest 2 VR headset.

Employing motion-controlled cameras, cutting-edge gameplay reenactments, and VFX, WAR has created a trailer that captures the thrilling first-person perspective of the game. The spot made its debut at the Ubisoft Forward event and has garnered over 300,000 views on YouTube, receiving praise from gaming journalists.

WAR's creative director, Eduardo Guisandes, emphasizes their ability to bring technical knowledge and hands-on experience to VR and interactive titles while staying rooted in the core principles of narrative and cinematography. The team's expertise in storytelling through a design lens allows them to adapt their skills to new mediums like VR.

Assassin's Creed Nexus VR takes inspiration from the franchise's previous titles, which are set in various historical periods, each featuring a shadowy assassin. The immersive VR experience allows players to embody beloved characters from the franchise and transports them across different timelines, seamlessly transitioning them between the Revolutionary-era Boston, Ancient Greece, and the Italian Renaissance.

The collaboration between WAR and Ubisoft involved synchronizing deliverables across multiple production pipelines, including teams in LA, Seattle, Montreal, and London-based Woodblock. The use of a motion control rig enabled the synchronization of CGI cinematic cameras with live-action plates, seamlessly blending live-action footage, gameplay reenactments, and VFX.

The finished trailer primarily stays within the first-person perspective of the game world while incorporating subtle nods to previous Assassin's Creed trailers and storylines. Guisandes credits the successful partnership between WAR and Ubisoft's marketing and development teams, highlighting the trust and open creative collaboration that allowed the project to flourish.

Overall, WAR's Assassin's Creed Nexus VR trailer taps into our desire for excitement, exploration, and the unleashing of our inner assassin. It showcases the seamless integration of storytelling, gameplay, and visual effects in the transition to the immersive world of virtual reality.
