OMORI on PC – The Original Experience
OMORI first launched on PC on December 25th, 2020 after 7 years in development. The PC version available on Steam and GOG offers the highest graphical fidelity and performance. With a modern gaming rig, OMORI can run at up to 4K resolution and 60fps or beyond. This provides the crispest visuals to appreciate the dreamy art style.
Steam users also get access to achievements, cloud saves, workshop support for mods, and an active community forum. Notable mods like OMORI: Mixtape Edition and Spooky‘s OMORI add brand new content. There is also vibrant PC speedrunning community taking advantage of faster loading times.
As the original release, the PC edition serves as the baseline experience the developers intended. Various gamepads or keyboard/mouse controls are supported for comfort. Minimum system requirements call for a PC with 8GB RAM, integrated graphics, and Windows 7 or later.
OMORI on Nintendo Switch – Portable Dream World
On June 17th, 2022, OMORI made its debut on Nintendo Switch. This allowed the surreal adventure to be played on the go for the first time. The Switch version lowers the resolution to 720p in handheld mode and 1080p docked to TVs. Framerate is capped at 30fps. While a visual downgrade from PC, the artsy pixel art still shines on Nintendo‘s tablet.
Digital copies on the eShop run $19.99 while physical editions cost $29.99. Physical copies require 3.4GB on Switch compared to 7GB+ on other platforms. Having a boxed cartridge avoids draining precious internal storage. Either version allows exploring the strange world of OMORI anywhere you bring your Switch.
OMORI on PlayStation 4/5 – Comfy on the Couch
A week after the Switch release, OMORI appeared on PlayStation 4 on June 24th, 2022. This digital PSN version features integration with Sony ecosystems like trophy support, activity feeds, and online profiles.
The PS4 edition runs smoothly at 1080p resolution and 60fps when played on a PS4 Pro or PS5 via backwards compatibility. Standard PS4‘s target 30fps. While not as sharp as PC, the PS4‘s strong install base opened OMORI up to a huge audience of console gamers.
Physically, OMORI on PS4 costs $29.99. But digital copies on PSN remain at an affordable $19.99. No matter how you play on PlayStation, OMORI feels right at home on the big screen TV with a controller in hand.
OMORI on Xbox Consoles and Game Pass
Microsoft platforms can access OMORI through Xbox Game Pass. It joined the subscription catalog on day one of the console launch on June 17th, 2022. This provides Xbox One and Series X/S owners another avenue to try OMORI for just the monthly cost of Game Pass.
Performance varies based on console. Xbox One plays at 1080p/30fps while Series X can hit up to 4K at 60fps. Playing on Xbox means missing out on achievements present on other platforms unfortunately. But Game Pass makes sampling OMORI easy and affordable.
Based on various benchmarks, the PC version remains the definitive way to experience OMORI. But all the console ports admirably recreate its offbeat world. And each platform‘s unique strengths like portability or trophies might sway you. Whichever version brings you to OMORI‘s world, just beware of the emotional journey that awaits!
