Will Midnight Suns be free?

Hey friend! I know you‘re excited about the new Marvel‘s Midnight Suns game and wondering if you can play it for free. As a fellow gaming enthusiast, let me walk you through the details so you can decide if it‘s worth picking up.

The short answer is: Sort of, but only temporarily. Keep reading and I‘ll explain the different ways you may be able to play for free or discounted.

Steam Free Trial

For a limited time, you can play Midnight Suns on PC via Steam for free! From February 16-19, 2023, there is a free trial available that gives you 3 hours of full, unrestricted gameplay. Anything you accomplish in the trial will carry over if you decide to purchase the full game later.

3 hours is plenty of time to get a feel for the combat, explore the Abbey hub world, and see if the dark supernatural setting vibes with you. If you have a gaming PC, I highly recommend taking advantage of this trial to experience Midnight Suns risk-free.

Xbox Game Pass?

A common question I‘m seeing is will Midnight Suns come to Xbox Game Pass for console or PC. Unfortunately, most 2K published games don‘t launch on Game Pass.

There‘s a small chance it could happen 6+ months after release, like with Tiny Tina‘s Wonderlands, another 2K game. But I wouldn‘t count on playing Midnight Suns through a Game Pass subscription anytime soon.

Game Pass Release Data

Let‘s look at some release data:

2K Game Game Pass Release
NBA 2K22 Not available
Tiny Tina‘s Wonderlands 6 months after launch
WWE 2K22 Not available
Marvel‘s Midnight Suns Not available currently

As we can see, Game Pass seems unlikely based on 2K‘s publishing history. Of course, anything could change in the future if a promotional deal is struck. But I wouldn‘t expect to play Midnight Suns through Game Pass any time soon, friend.

PlayStation Plus Discounts

For my fellow PlayStation gamers, here‘s some good news. PlayStation Plus members received an exclusive 10% discount when pre-ordering the digital version of Midnight Suns.

So if you want to save a few bucks, make sure you have an active PS Plus membership before pre-purchasing. Every little bit helps!

Giveaways & Promotions

Another way you may luck out is through giveaways or promotions. Both 2K and Marvel have been known to provide free game codes through social media contests and at gaming events.

For example, back in 2019, 2K gave away a ton of free Borderlands 3 game codes on Twitter and Instagram. So following accounts like @2K, @MarvelGames, and @MidnightSuns could give you a shot at winning a free copy down the road.

I‘ll be keeping my eyes peeled for any giveaways or promotions and will let you know if I come across any! A chance for free stuff is always nice.

Waiting for Discounts

If money is tight, waiting for a discount could be your best bet. Based on 2K‘s usual pattern, I predict Midnight Suns will see its first major price drop during seasonal sales like:

  • Steam Winter Sale (Late December 2022)
  • PlayStation Holiday Sale (December 2022)
  • Xbox Countdown Sale (December 2022/January 2023)

The sales probably won‘t exceed 25% off initially. But waiting 3-6 months could get you at least a 30-50% discount. If you can hold off until Summer 2023, you might see even lower prices. Just add the game to your wishlist so you get notified!

Trading & Borrowing

This option requires knowing someone else who has the game, but trading or borrowing with friends can get you Midnight Suns at no cost.

Check if any friends or family members plan to purchase Midnight Suns and see if they‘d be open to lending it out after they finish. Offer to trade another game with them temporarily so you both win.

Local classifieds, eBay, and Facebook Marketplace are also great places to check for used copies as people finish the game and sell it at a discount.

Is Midnight Suns Worth Paying For?

Alright, so clearly getting it completely free might be tricky. But is Midnight Suns worth shelling out your hard-earned cash for? Let‘s recap some of the key points:

  • Incredibly fun turn-based tactical combat
  • Tons of RPG-style hero customization
  • Awesome card mechanic for abilities
  • Gorgeous art style and effects
  • Satisfying progression loop

  • Story is slow to ramp up
  • Missions can feel repetitive
  • Relatively short for an RPG (under 30 hrs)
  • Expensive DLC planned

So in summary, the combat and progression systems make Midnight Suns an absolute blast to play. Exploring the Abbey and bonding with heroes like Wolverine and Iron Man is rewarding too.

But the story drags at first, and content feels light for the $60 price tag. Also be prepared for pricy DLC down the line.

Overall, if you love tactical RPGs and Marvel, I firmly believe you‘ll get your money‘s worth from Midnight Suns and have a great time despite some flaws.

The Verdict on Playing for Free

Alright friend, let‘s sum up your free play options:

  • Take advantage of the 3 hour Steam trial from February 16-19
  • Watch for discounts during seasonal sales (30-50% likely in 2023)
  • Keep an eye out for giveaways and promotions
  • Borrow from or trade with friends when possible

While getting the full game free is unlikely now, you should definitely try the Steam trial. And waiting for a good discount down the road will help alleviate the cost.

Midnight Suns seems well worth paying for based on the combat alone, even with some frustrating DLC practices by 2K. Let me know if you have any other questions! Enjoy the free trial.
