Last week, a user leaked approximately 40 minutes of footage from the highly anticipated game Starfield on the internet. While Bethesda attempted to remove the leaked footage, it still remains available online. However, authorities in Shelby County, Tennessee took action and arrested the person responsible for the leak. The arrest was not for the act of spoiling Starfield, but rather for allegedly attempting to sell stolen copies of the game.
The individual arrested, Darin Harris, faces a felony charge for possession of stolen property worth $2,500 to $10,000. After leaking the game footage, Harris reportedly tried to sell copies of Starfield on a Japanese marketplace platform called Mercari. They even posted videos of themselves packaging and shipping the sold games to online buyers.
It is unclear if the arrest is directly related to Harris' activities surrounding Starfield, as Kotaku was unable to obtain statements from the parties involved.
Meanwhile, legitimate players and fans eagerly await the release of Starfield, which is set to launch on September 6th for Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game will be included with Game Pass from day one. Pre-orders for the Digital Premium Upgrade of Starfield can be found on Amazon and the Xbox Store, allowing Game Pass subscribers to start playing five days early on September 1st.
