Sony CEO Jim Ryan to Retire in 2024, Hiroki Totoki to Assume Role as Chairman

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that Jim Ryan, President and CEO, will retire in March 2024 after a successful tenure of 32 years with PlayStation. In the meantime, Hiroki Totoki, currently the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), will assume the role of Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment starting October 2023. Additionally, starting April 1, 2024, Totoki will be appointed as the Interim CEO of SIE while continuing in his current role at Sony Group Corporation.

Jim Ryan has been an integral part of PlayStation's success, particularly noteworthy being the successful launch of PlayStation 5 amidst the global COVID-19 pandemic. Kenichiro Yoshida, Chairman and CEO of Sony Group Corporation, expressed his gratitude towards Ryan for all his achievements and acknowledged the significance of his role in the Game & Network Services business. Yoshida further emphasized their aim to achieve Sony Group's growth and evolution through the continued success of the Game & Network Services Business.

After 30 years with SIE, Jim Ryan shared his decision to retire in 2024. While reflecting on his time with the company, he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work on products that have impacted millions of lives worldwide. Ryan also conveyed his optimism for the future of SIE and thanked Yoshida-san for his trust and support throughout his tenure.
